Teul-ttak

/tɯl.t͈ak/

Definition

A derogatory Korean internet slang term for an old person, from '틀니 딱딱' (the clacking of dentures). Used to mock elderly people seen as outdated or stubborn. It is a clear ageist slur, so it should be used with caution.

Examples

  • Calling elders 'teul-ttak' in online generational fights is plainly hateful language.
  • Belittling someone as 'teul-ttak' because of their age should be avoided.

Teul-ttak is short for '틀니 딱딱' (dentures clacking). It spread in the mid-2010s as online generational conflict intensified, used to mock older people.

Note:

  • It is a clear ageist / elder-demeaning slur.
  • Because it puts someone down for their age, it is not recommended for everyday use.

This glossary explains the meaning only; it does not endorse using the term.
